Shutdown in Kashmir against arrest and death of youths hits normal life

Srinagar, May 15 (ANI): Separatist leader and Chairman of hard-line Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, called for a shutdown in Srinagar on Thursday as a mark of protest against the arrest and death of youths who were allegedly involved in violence. The city wore a deserted look as shops and other business establishments remained closed. An irate resident, Safiz Ahmed, said the commuters had to face the brunt of the strike as many vehicles remained off the roads. Security personnel were deployed in large numbers to avert any untoward incident. The restive region has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency, and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades. May 15, 2014

Women leaders from SAARC countries come together in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, May 15 (ANI): Nepal recently hosted a "Conference on democracy and inclusive good governance for gender equality and sustainable development in South Asia" in capital Kathmandu. The programme opened with the SAARC anthem, a song penned by Kathmandu-based Indian diplomat Abhay Kumar. Nepal's education minister Chitralekha Yadav inaugurated the 3-day long event organized jointly by the South Asia Women's Network (SWAN), Stri Shakti and the Nepal based NGO, SEARCH. Parliament takes slew of measures to ensure smooth arrival of new lawmakers

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): The Secretary General of the Lower House P Sreedharan on Thursday said that the Parliament has taken a slew of measures to ensure smooth arrival of newly elected lawmakers in New Delhi. Sreedharan said the government has set up six guide posts at airport and three railway stations in the capital to receive the newly-elected members and facilitate their journey to the parliament or the place of their stay. He added that the posts would be operational from May 16. He also said the chief electoral officers and returning officers in the district have also been informed of details to guide the lawmakers. ScarJo sues French novelist for 50K Euros for 'personal slur'

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Scarlett Johansson has sued a French novelist for 50,000 euros in damages for his work of fiction that makes fraudulent claims about her personal life. The fictional work titled 'La Premiere Chose qu'On Regarde' (The First Thing We Look At) is written by Gregoire Delacourt, a leading daily reported.The book tells the story of a French model who looks so similar to the American actor that the book's lead male character thinks it is Johansson herself and has a series of adventures as Johansson until she is eventually found out and, in the end, dies in a car crash.Johansson's lawyer said that Delacourt's novel constituted a violation and fraudulent and illegal exploitation of her name, her reputation and her image and that it contains defamatory claims about her private life.
