At least 12 pilgrims killed in road accident in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, July 29 (ANI): At least 12 pilgrims, five of them women, were killed and 22 others injured when a speeding container ran over them on the New Delhi-Kolkata National Highway in Bihar's Aurangabad district on Tuesday. The heavy vehicle lost control and ran over the devotees sleeping by the side of the road. After running over the victims, it hit a parked bus in which some other devotees were resting. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bhim Kumar, said pilgrims were returning from Deoghar after offering the holy water. The injured have been admitted to Sadar Hospital with some of the seriously injured rushed to Magadh Medical College and Hospital in Gaya.

Congress demands probe into bugging issue at Nitin Gadkari's residence

New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil demanded an immediate probe be conducted into the bugging issue at Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari's residence. Gadkari had denied reports of snooping devices found in at his residence, which raked up a controversy between the two parties. The report claimed that high power listening devices were accidentally found in Gadkari's bedroom. Addressing a news conference, Gohil said it was the right of a person to lead a private life and it was illegal for anyone to snoop or perform detective actions on a person without permission. Slamming Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi, Gohil said when Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat it was a regimen to snoop on politicians and other people.

SP government orders CBI probe in Mohanlalganj rape case

Lucknow, July 29 (ANI): The state government-led by Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh agreed to demands of the family of the Mohanlalganj rape and murder victim and ordered a CBI probe in the same. Family of the woman began a fast unto death protest on Sunday demanding a CBI probe into the incident citing dissatisfaction with police report. The police had said that there were no traces of rape before murder and only one person was involved in the crime. SP leader Naresh Agarwal said they had written to CBI to conduct an inquiry. However, family of the victim, who said they will not end the hunger strike till all their demands were met, said that no government official has visited them to inform them about the development in the case.

West Bengal CM misleading people on Encephalitis: Biman Bose

Kolkata, July 29 (ANI): CPI (M) leader Biman Bose hit out at West Bengal government over its inability to tackle Japanese Encephalitis. Almost 570 people in India have died after contracting encephalitis, commonly known as "brain fever", health authorities said on Friday, warning the death toll may rise with more people still at risk. In West Bengal, where at least 111 people have died from both strains, a senior health official said authorities were taking emergency steps to contain the outbreak. Bose attacked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she was misleading people. The health department has set up clinics across affected areas and is trying to prevent breeding of mosquitoes by fogging, especially around pig farms, where there is a high risk of contracting the virus.

India celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr

Lucknow/ Srinagar/ Jammu/ New Delhi/ Saharanpur, July 29 (ANI): Muslims across India offered Eid prayers on Tuesday after clerics sight the moon at the end of holy month of Ramadan the previous night. Muslim Cleric Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali had confirmed that Muslims would pray for peace and harmony in the country as well as in Palestine on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. In Srinagar, Muslims offered morning prayers at a mosque and celebrated the festival, praying for peace and brotherhood. In Jammu too, people in large numbers arrived at a mosque as the Ramadan month culminates in Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. Meanwhile, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also offered prayers at Delhi's Jama Masjid and wished everyone Happy Eid.

Politicians offer prayers, extend greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr

New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): Vice President Hamid Ansari and BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday offered prayers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and extended their greetings to the people. Vice president Ansari said that everyone should celebrate forgetting all the differences after the long days of Ramzan. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that he pray for peace and unity in the country and everywhere in world where people faced violence during Eid. Gaurav Gogoi calls for unity within Congress ahead of state by-polls

Guwahati, July 29 (ANI): Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said the party was united and would meet expectations of people in upcoming by-elections in Assam state, denying any dissidence in the party.
