Machil fake encounter case: Seven armymen sentenced to life imprisonment

Sopore, Nov 13 (ANI): The family members of the youths who were killed in a fake encounter in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed satisfaction after the army on Thursday convicted seven men, including two officers and five soldiers, for their involvement in the case. In the 2010 Machil fake encounter case, three youths - Mohamad Shafi, Shehzad Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed, were killed after being lured for jobs in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Ministry of Defence (MOD) sources. All the service benefits of the seven convicted armymen have also been suspended reportedly. Security forces had earlier claimed that they had killed three infiltrators and recovered five AK47 rifles, ammunition and Pakistani currency from them in the Machil sector. Nov 13, 2014

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): Director General of India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Dilip Trivedi, said that the security personnel were prepared for worst case scenario for upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly polls in JandK will be held in five-phases, beginning on November 25 and ending on December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23. While addressing a news briefing in New Delhi, Trivedi said that there could be a high level attempt to disrupt elections and troops were briefed on the same.
