Politicos react after Siddaramaiah proposes bar on male staff in primary classes

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Thursday after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed barring the employment of all the male teachers or staff at schools with girl students in the primary classes. BJP leader Sambit Patra said that the Chief Minister should try to resolve the matter legally. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that any kind of gender discrimination would be inappropriate for the society. JD (U) Ali Anwar also expressed similar sentiments.

Machil fake encounter case: Seven armymen sentenced to life imprisonment

Sopore, Nov 13 (ANI): The family members of the youths who were killed in a fake encounter in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed satisfaction after the army on Thursday convicted seven men, including two officers and five soldiers, for their involvement in the case. In the 2010 Machil fake encounter case, three youths - Mohamad Shafi, Shehzad Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed, were killed after being lured for jobs in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Ministry of Defence (MOD) sources. All the service benefits of the seven convicted armymen have also been suspended reportedly. Security forces had earlier claimed that they had killed three infiltrators and recovered five AK47 rifles, ammunition and Pakistani currency from them in the Machil sector.

Diaspora eyes Modi boosting India Australia ties

Sydney, Nov 13 (ANI): Expatriate Indians are all set to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will arrive in Australia on November 14. Preparations are also on in full swing for Modi's address in Sydney's Allphones Arena on November 17. Modi is on a three country visit Myanmar, Australia and Fiji to participate in various summits and bilateral meetings. An organiser of Australian Committee Foundation, Balesh Dhankar, said when announcement about Modi's address at Allphones Arena was made, around 21,000 registrations were received within three days. The Allphones Arena has a capacity of only 16, 664 people.

World leaders gather in Myanmar for East Asia Summit

Nay Pyi Taw, Nov 13 (ANI): World leaders gathered in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday for the East Asia Summit, a day of talks on regional as well as international issues. Leaders sat down for discussions at the East Asia Summit, which brings together ASEAN and the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, India, New Zealand and Australia. Obama heads a stellar cast of dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is also attending the talks. United States President Barack Obama arrived in Myanmar on Wednesday for regional meetings with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Reactions flow over ruckus during Maharashtra Assembly trust vote

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): Political leaders on Thursday reacted over ruckus which occurred during trust vote in Maharashtra Assembly following which some Congress MLAs were suspended. BJP leader Rameshwar Chaurasia said that leaders of Congress and Shiv Sena did not behave properly in the assembly session due to which a lot of unparliamentary incidents were perceived. CPI leader Atul Anjan said that CM Devendra Fadnavis has lost peoples' faith the very first day. Meanwhile, NCP leader Majid Memon said that the leaders who feel that decisions have not been made in a proper way should follow the parliamentary procedure of raising questions.

CRPF prepares for worst case scenario in Kashmir polls

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): Director General of India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Dilip Trivedi, said that the security personnel were prepared for worst case scenario for upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly polls in JandK will be held in five-phases, beginning on November 25 and ending on December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23. While addressing a news briefing in New Delhi, Trivedi said that there could be a high level attempt to disrupt elections and troops were briefed on the same. Trivedi further said that as compared to the previous elections held in the state, the force anticipated the upcoming elections to be more difficult. Trivedi also spoke about preparedness for assembly polls in Jharkhand which goes to polls simultaneously with Kashmir.

AIBA says future bleak for Boxer Sarita Devi, Reactions flow

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): L Sarita Devi's amateur boxing career could be finished after her "unacceptable" behaviour at the Incheon Asian Games where the fighter refused to accept her bronze medal on the podium, said the president of the governing AIBA. Sarita was furious after losing her semi-final to local favourite Park Ji-na in the women's lightweight division. She refused to wear the medal when it was presented to her, taking it only in her hand before trying to drape it over Park. When the presentation was over, Sarita left the medal behind, despite being told to take it with her. Meanwhile, former Indian Sports Minister, MS Gill, said that it was very unfortunate and athletes should respect the judgement. Former athlete, Sunita Godara, said Devi's behaviour was against sportsmanship and AIBA would not take it lightly.
