Two Bollywood movies - Stree and Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se released on Friday, but it is the former that stood high at the box office as far as the first-day collection is concerned.

Starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead, Stree reportedly opened up with 30 per cent occupancy in the theatres in the morning shows. The footfalls witnessed a considerable rise during the afternoon and evening shows.

On the other hand, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se starring Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Dharmendra and Kriti Kharbanda witnessed a poor occupancy of around 10 per cent in the morning shows.

Stree made a box office collection of Rs 6.82 crore at the domestic market on its day 1. And Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se earned just Rs 1.82 crore on the opening day.

"When numbers do the talking... #Stree surpasses the expectations and estimations and posts a SUPERB number on Day 1... Biz is expected to multiply over the weekend... Fri ₹ 6.82 cr. India biz... Hugely positive word of mouth has translated into BO numbers. [sic]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

Although Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se reportedly maintained a better hold around Punjab side, Stree captured the metro cities. It is going to be a tough task for the Deols starrer to fight with Stree at the box office as the latter has received positive reviews from the critics as well, unlike Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se.

Stree may make an even better collection at the Indian box office over the weekend as it is likely to enjoy strong word of mouth. Stree is a horror comedy, based on a real-life phenomenon in Bangalore during the early 90s.
