Lok Sabha MP and president of the AIMIM, Asaduddin Owaisi, has criticised Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar. Speaking at a summit, Owaisi called the film "bakwaas" (nonsense) and accused it of promoting violence.
At a summit hosted by Times Now, when asked about the films, Owaisi remarked, "Picture hai vo? Teen ghante bakwaas (Is that even a film? It's three hours of nonsense)." He added that he does not have the time to watch such long films and questioned their content, saying they are filled with cuss words and promote violence. He further said that by the end of the film, it leaves viewers wondering whether they should direct abuse at Muslims, adding, "Who has the time to watch all this?"
When the host noted that the "world is watching" the sequel and responding positively, Owaisi replied with a Hyderabadi saying: "Pyaare, in cheezon ko dil pe mat lo, murde pe lo — to hum murde pe leke chhod dete hain usko" (Dear, don't take such things to heart, take them to the grave — so we let it go).

Written and directed by Aditya Dhar, the Dhurandhar films are produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The first film, released on December 5 last year, earned ₹840 crore in India and over ₹1,300 crore worldwide. The sequel, released on March 19 this year, has collected over ₹715 crore in India and ₹1,128 crore globally, making it the highest-grossing film of 2026.
The films follow Indian spy Jaskirat Singh Rangi, alias Hamza Ali Mazari (Ranveer Singh), who is sent to Lyari, Pakistan, by IB director Ajay Sanyal (R. Madhavan) to infiltrate a Baloch gang and dismantle a terror outfit. The sequel features returning cast members including Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, Sanjay Dutt, Gaurav Gera, and Danish Pandor. Drawing inspiration from real-life geopolitical events, the sequel—released in multiple South Indian languages alongside Hindi—is on track to surpass the success of the original.
