Dhurandhar is soaring at the box office. After Part 1 became the highest grosser of 2025, the film's box-office success is now unstoppable with Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Part 2). The Ranveer Singh-led film is inching towards Rs 500 crore. The massive success is despite the film not being released in Gulf countries; it is banned due to political issues.
However, with success comes hardships. The film has been embroiled in controversy after a section of the Sikh community on X (formerly Twitter) has alleged Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar for disrespecting Guru Gobind Singh's Dasam Granth.
As per reports, an FIR has been filed against the makers of Dhurandhar The Revenge by the Sikh community for disrespecting Guru Gobind Singh's Dasam Granth. They have claimed that R Madhavan's character was seen smoking while saying lines from the Dasam Granth.
The FIR has been filed at Mulund Police Station by Gurjyot Singh Keer, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader and president of the organisation 'Sikhs in Maharashtra'.
Keer also shared a video slamming the makers and captioned it as, "I strongly condemn the blatant disrespect shown towards Gurbani by the makers of Dhurandhar 2."
While Madhavan has shared a clarification about it, director Aditya Dhar has not posted anything about the controversy.
R Madhvan, in the video, said, "We have come to know that some people have an issue with one of the scenes of the film, in which, while saying lines from Guru Gobind Singh's Dasam Granth, I was smoking a cigarette, and this has hurt them. But let me assure you that this is not true. There's a misunderstanding because I am sure that before I said the lines, Aditya Dhar told me that before saying the lines, put out the cigarette, and there won't be smoke coming from your mouth, nor will there be smoke on screen during the scene, because it is very pak and pavitra for them. So, I had put out the cigarette."
R Madhavan again clarified that at the start of the scene, there's a cigarette in his hand, but later he puts it out. "If we have offended anyone knowingly or unknowingly, please forgive us.."
Is Dhurandhar 3 in the works?
Casting director Mukesh Chhabra has now addressed the rumours.
Chhabra, who was closely involved in casting the film, spoke about the speculation in a recent interview, clarifying the situation and responding to reports about the franchise's future.
Speaking to Zoom, he said, "Aisa kuch nahi hone wala. Bohot sare rumours hai." ("Nothing like that is going to happen. There are a lot of rumours.")
Chhabra also added that if there is any rumour that needs clarification, he would address it directly on X.
On its first Monday, the film collected Rs 65 crore from 20,382 shows, comfortably crossing the Rs 500 crore mark in India. After five days, the domestic collection stands at Rs 519.12 crore (net), while the worldwide gross has risen to Rs 829.76 crore, according to Sacnilk.
The Telugu version contributed Rs 3.50 crore, while the Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil versions added Rs 0.15 crore, Rs 0.15 crore and Rs 1.20 crore respectively.
However, Madhavan took to his Instagram handle and clarified that he wasn't smoking while saying the lines.
