The buzz in T-town is that superhit Hindi film "Piku" is being remade in Telugu, with Victory Venkatesh and Samantha likely to essay the lead roles in the Tollywood version.
Reports suggest that Venkatesh's brother and producer Suresh Babu recently watched "Piku". Impressed with the movie, he planned to remake the film in Telugu. He is reportedly in talks with the makers of Bollywood blockbuster movie "Piku". If everything goes well, the movie will be remade under his home banner Suresh Productions.
Written by Juhi Chaturvedi, "Piku" is a comedy drama, an emotional relationship between a Bengali architect and her hypochondriac father, who suffers from constipation. Their emotions unravel as they set out on a car journey from Delhi to Kolkata. Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone have played the lead roles in the film, which is a box office hit.
Venkatesh recently starred in three back-to-back remake films such as "Masala", "Drushyam" and "Gopala Gopala". He is also keen to play the lead role in the remake of "Piku". Reports suggest that he will reprise the role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original film.
Suresh Babu and Venkatesh are keen to rope in Samantha for the female lead role in the remake of "Piku". She is on the list of the actresses whose names are being considered for the Telugu version. The makers of the likely remake are reportedly planning to approach her once they acquire the remake rights.
After the release of "S/O Satyamurthy", Samantha has not signed a single Telugu film. She has five Tamil films "10 Enradhukulla", "24", Vada Chennai, Velraj's untitled project and Atlee's untitled film in her kitty. She is currently busy with the shooting of these films.
If she signs the remake of "Piku", it will be a comeback movie for her, as far as Telugu movies are concerned.
However, Suresh Productions is yet to acquire the remake rights of "Piku" and make an official announcement about it. But the news about the film is creating lot of buzz on social media. Here are some Twitter comments, which reveal the excitement of Telugu movie buffs for the remake.
