Rajinikanth's Petta has garnered positive reviews and has got a flying start at the box office in Tamil Nadu. Thus the Kollywood movie, which hit the screens on Thursday, 10 January, starting its journey on a positive note, but it has failed to set new records at the box office.

Petta has seen the light of the day in over 500 screens in Tamil Nadu. The film had created a lot of positive buzz and it reflected in the advance booking of tickets. Petta got best single screens and multiplexes for its release. Cashing in on the hype, exhibitors dedicated most of its screens for the Rajinikanth-starrer which helped the movie register such an opening. However, the cancellation of early morning shows in many centers had huge impact on its overall collection.

In Chennai, Petta had over 170+ shows and enjoyed an average of 85+ percent of occupancy for the shows. The movie is estimated to have earned Rs 1.12 crore on the opening day in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

The early estimation coming from the industry indicates that Petta had garnered over Rs 13 crore on the first day in Tamil Nadu. It means The Rajinikanth-starrer has failed to shatter Vijay's Sarkar and his own 2.0, which had raked in Rs 18.2 crore on the first day a month and half ago.
