Oppo has finally launched the F9 Pro in India after several teasers and hints revealing bits and pieces about the smartphone. The Chinese smartphone maker held an event in Mumbai on Tuesday to showcase the new F-series smartphone in India, which takes on premium mid-range phones.

Oppo F9 Pro brings many firsts for the company and the industry as well. The F9 Pro is the first to feature "Waterdrop Screen," which simply means a smaller notch and higher screen-to-body ratio. Everything from the phone's design to cameras and performance to the battery has been designed with extreme caution so it appeals to the choosy fans out there.

Check out the top features of Oppo F9 Pro that impressed us at first glance.

VOOC fast charging

We've been eager for Oppo to bring VOOC to its new F-series phones and it finally did it with the F9 Pro. Much like OnePlus Dash Charge, Oppo's VOOC can swiftly charge the phone in no time. According to the company, a quick 5-minute charge can give users up to 2 hours of talk time.

Oppo F9 Pro features a 3,500mAh battery paired with AI battery management for long-lasting life. Oppo uses low voltage flash charge that not only delivers fast charging but it does that without heating up the phone. Independent tests run by the company revealed that the F9 Pro can fully charge in just 76 minutes.

We will be testing it soon, along with the overall performance of the device. But we're already impressed by VOOC integration in the F9 Pro and it can be a strong USP for Oppo.

Waterdrop screen

We've heard the word "notch" so much that it doesn't feel odd any more. But Oppo is shifting from the norm and introducing us to "waterdrop screen" in the F9 Pro. The company says the new notch looks like a water drop that is about to fall and it's tiny structure allows for the company to pack higher 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Oppo F9 Pro features a large 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with 19:5:9 aspect ratio and minimal bezels on the sides. It is a refreshing design, to say the least when every other OEM is going after a wider notch.

New colours

Oppo F9 Pro's colours really catch an eye. The company says it has adopted gradient spraying colour technology to get that perfect mix. The all-new Sunrise Red, Twilight Blue and Starry Purple shades are quite appealing and give different light and shadow effects at every turn.

Describing the new colours, Oppo said, "F9 Pro's inspiration of red and purple gradient colour comes from "the sky under the sunset" while the dark blue gradient colour is inspired by the "dark night." The purple starry sky special edition is inspired by "the flicker of the firefly's wings in the summer night" and the blue green edition is inspired by the aurora borealis."

Cameras

Oppo phones have always been about the cameras and each time the company tries to best its previous device. Oppo F9 Pro features a dual rear camera setup with 16MP and 2MP sensors paired with LED flash, AI scene recognition for ideal automatic settings, various modes including AI Beauty.

Selfies are particularly important for Oppo and it is popularly known as "selfie expert." Justifying its title, Oppo F9 Pro features a 25MP front snapper with real-time HDR support, AI Beauty Technology 2.1, AI Learning to understand your beauty settings, AR Stickers and more.

Oppo F9 Pro comes with integrated video editing software and Google Lens.

We will be testing out the cameras and be sharing our review soon. Stay tuned.
