In 2017, OnePlus had collaborated with world-renowned camera rating agency DxOMark Mobile for the development of the OnePlus 5 series, and it did live up to the expectations. But since then, the company has made a lot of efforts to improve the photography experience by releasing timely software updates.

Now, OnePlus will soon be bringing a crucial firmware that promises to enhance the selfie camera on OnePlus 5 and the 5T. Earlier this month, the company hosted 'Open Ears Forum: Product in India edition in Goa for the core community to have a direct conversation with the company engineers in order to improve the future phones and look at any improvements that be added to the existing devices in the market.

Recently, community forum published the list of initiatives discussed in the event and among them, which caught our attention was the company has announced to release a software update to bring Selfie Portrait mode to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.

This is a welcome gesture by OnePlus, Selfie Portrait up until now, is available exclusively on the latest OnePlus 6 and by bringing to the former flagship, it will definitely build stronger loyalty among the patrons.

As of now, there is no word on when OnePlus will be deploying the camera software update but will be coming sooner than later. With the update, OnePlus 5 series owners will be able to get the option to adjust blur-ness of the background of the subject's face in the single-lens front camera.

We hope other rival companies (except for Xiaomi, which by the way is doing great with Mi Fan community) take a leaf out of OnePlus and start listening to customers more closely and improve their product quality and after-sale service as well.

Key commitment points from OnePlus' Open Ear Forum Goa 2018:

  1. FileDash will be improved to be made compatible with other OnePlus applications; will also be made easier to discover
  2. OnePlus Switch with support enhanced data backup and desktop backup
  3. Selfie Portrait Mode on the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T
  4. Correction on the 'Oil Painting Effect' to continue
  5. Shelf widget will support Dark Theme
