We have often found unusual rocks and shells while walking around the beach. But how many times have those rocks turned out to be prehistoric? I guess the chances are not that high. However, that's exactly what happened with a North Carolina couple.

The couple was taking a leisurely walk on the Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina on a normal day when they suddenly stumbled upon a prehistoric find - a megalodon shark's tooth, which could be millions of years old.

Sydney Williams told NBC12 that her boyfriend Brian Piccirilli noticed the tooth. Later, the couple showed their rare find to their friend Audrey Longtin. She makes jewellery from shark teeth. It was Longtin who stated that finding a megalodon tooth of this size on the beach was quite lucky.

The megalodon was the largest shark to have ever been documented. Unfortunately, the sea animal went extinct millions of years ago.

The couple is now planning to keep the tooth.
