American smartphone maker, Motorola Mobility has launched the much awaited 4G-LTE variant of popular budget handset Moto E (2 Gen) in India.

The company's official ecommerce affiliate Flipkart has begun taking pre-orders of 4G-LTE enabled Moto E (2 Gen) for ₹7,999. The company is said to begin delivery of the device from 23 April.

As a promotional campaign, Flipkart is also offering 70% discount on 8GB Transcend Class 4 Pen-drive, 100% Cash-back for lucky 200 customers and also 6 months of Unlimited Music Download voucher from Saavn Pro.

For the uninitiated, 4G and 3G models of Moto E (2 Gen) have pretty much the same hardware configuration except the SoC (System on Chip). The former houses more advanced 64-bit class 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 series SoC (System on Chip), whereas the latter comes packed with 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 series processor.

Moto E (2 Gen) 4G, has begun selling the official Motorola device accessories Moto Grip back-covers and Bands.

Why was 4G enabled Moto E (2 Gen) release delayed in India?

The delay in releasing 4G-LTE Moto E (2 Gen) has to do with non-compatibility of phone's radio-modem with India's network bandwidth. The 4G model, which is currently selling in North America is only compatible with telecommunication network bands in the US.

The company needs to first initiate testing on Moto E to re-calibrate modem chip to make it compatible with Indian network bandwidth. After thorough testing, they are required get a nod from the Indian Government owned telecommunication agency and only then the Motorola device will hit stores in the subcontinent.

Even Motorola Mobility's foster parent Lenovo took time on its own smartphone A7000 in India.
