PM Modi will visit Odisha after an aerial survey of affected areas in West Bengal.

The deadly cyclone has left 82 people dead and several homeless. This is PM Modi's first visit outside the national capital after coronavirus lockdown was imposed nationwide since March 25.

  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an immediate relief assistance of Rs 1,000 crore to the cyclone-affected areas in West Bengal.
  2. Rs 2 lakhs would be given to the next of kin of the persons deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the persons who got seriously injured due to cyclone Amphan in parts of West Bengal.
  3. A team will be sent by the central govt to conduct a detailed survey about the damage caused due to cyclone Amphan and the current situation of the affected areas. All aspects relating to rehabilitation and reconstruction will be addressed. We all want West Bengal to move ahead, says PM Modi.
  4. "I assure my brothers and sisters of West Bengal that the entire country stands with you in these difficult times," said PM.

Amphan was the most powerful cyclone to strike eastern India and Bangladesh in over a decade, as rescue teams scoured devastated coastal villages, hampered by torn down power lines and widespread flooding.

Several videos were doing the rounds on social media, showed people wading through knee-deep water and buses that had been smashed into each other.
