The new era of Miss World, Philippines' Year, has begun after Megan Young was crowned in a glittering ceremony on Saturday.
"No words! Thank you so much for everyone for choosing me. I promise to be the best Miss World ever," Megan said after winning the 63rd edition of the annual beauty pageant.
Her younger sister Lauren, also an actress, congratulated her for winning the beauty pageant.
"Tears of joy for my sister, Megan. I'm so happy for all of your achievements! I can't wait to see what you will do to change and help out not only our country, but the world. Megan is truly an amazing person, with a huge heart, she's not just my big sister but became a mom to me and Victor as well, sending us to school and making sure that we had a comfortable lifestyle, even though that meant that she had to be away from us working almost everyday for 24 hours a day. Congratulations ate, you have a beautiful face and a beautiful heart that is worth sharing to the world," Lauren said.
The beauty pageant neared its conclusion when the top 10 contestants were selected before final six were announced.
All the six contestants - Miss Philippines, Miss Brazil, Miss France, Miss Ghana, Miss Spain and Miss Gibraltar - were left on stage to answer the judges' questions.
Before giving them chance to explain their reasons to win the title, they were treated to a musical performance by Miss World 2012 Wenxia Yu, Vania Larissa from Indonesia and Erin Holland from Australia.
The winner and the runners-up were announced, with Megan Young winning the crown. Miss France Marine Lorphelin was announced the first runner-up and Miss Ghana Naa Okailey Shooter as second runner-up.
The contestants, holding each others hands, ended the ceremony by crooning to the beautiful Miss World song "Light the Flame".
