After building a lot of suspense, MG Motor India gave a theatrical introduction to its first SUV in India. The British car brand owned by Chinese multinational auto manufacturer SAIC confirmed on Wednesday that its upcoming SUV will be called MG Hector in India. The carmaker had been teasing the SUV's name with a countdown on its social media channels, building intense hype for the car much before it has hit Indian roads.

MG Hector is not a random name picked by the company. There's a story behind it, which most might find inspiring. According to the company, the name Hector draws inspiration from Prince Hector of Troy, the warrior hero of Homer's Iliad best known for his noble qualities. In addition, the SUV commemorates the memory of Royal Hector biplane, which was used by the Royal Air Force in 1930s.

MG Motor India also added that Hector stands for "Strength, Bold, Trustworthy and Dependable." These are the words every consumer can relate to while purchasing a car in India and it is yet to be seen how well MG Motors can justify its claims.
