Director Ashtar Sayed's Bollywood movie, Maatr, starring Raveena Tandon, Madhur Mittal, Alisha Khan, Divya Jagdale, Anurag Arora, has received positive reviews from the audience.
Of late, Bollywood has seen some thrilling female-centric films dealing with heroic tales of women in Neerja, Akira, Begum Jaan and Anaarkali of Aarah and Maatr is the latest to join the club. Maatr is a family drama thriller which follows the story of a mother avenging the gang rape and murder of her daughter.

Vidya (Raveena Tandon) is a school teacher who lives with her husband and daughter Tia (Alisha Khan) in Delhi. Her life takes a dangerous turn when a bunch of local ruffians attack Tia and her. Along with his gang, CM's son Apurva Malik (Madhur Mittal) rapes both and kills Tia. Vidya sets out to take revenge on the gang after investigation officer Jayant Shroff (Anurag Arora) fails to bring the culprits to book. Her revenge forms the major plot of the story.
Maatr is a regular Bollywood revenge drama dealing with a topical issue. The movie highlights the deep-set misogynistic tendency of society and the plight of women in India. Ashtar Sayed has handled a serious subject sensitively. He has managed to hold the attention of the viewers through the movie.
Maatr marks the grand comeback of Raveena Tandon to big screen. She has given it all and the effort is showing. Raveena's expressions have hit the right notes. Madhur Mittal, Alisha Khan, Divya Jagdale and Anurag Arora have also done justice to their respective roles.
