The death of two teenage girls, who had been missing from Konni, Pathanamthitta, since Thursday, 9 July, still remains a mystery as investigative officers are yet to come to a conclusion on the case.
The dead bodies of the girls -- Athira (17) and S Raji (16) -- were found on the railway track near Malankara-Lakkidi area at 7.30am on Monday.
The condition of their friend Arya K Suresh (16), who sustained serious head injuries, is said to be critical. She has been admitted to Thrissur Medical College hospital.
Latest reports suggest that the sim card the girls used for their tablet smartphone was bought using one of their neighbour's voter ID card. The card's owner Molly has confirmed that she hasn't given it to any one of them.
Meanwhile, various theories on their death have been doing the rounds on social media. While some reports claim that they commited suicide as a sex racket is involved, other reports claim that Arya's Facebook relationship with a person might be the reason why they left home on Thursday.
Some online news portals also report that Arya's online friend has been taken into custody for investigation, but police could'nt find his relation with the death of the girls.
Now, police officers have extended the investigation to Bengaluru as the girls had visited the Lal Bagh garden on Sunday. Their tablet smartphone is also missing from the bag the officers received from Bengaluru-Nagarcoil Island Express.
Meanwhile, the two girls have been cremated on Tuesday noon and investigative officers are waiting to collect more information from Arya once she is out of danger.
The three girls were close friends since their school days in Airavan and were pursuing higher studies in Konni Government Higher Secondary School. The trio was the favourite of the teachers due to their academic excellence and also actively took part in other activities. While Athira and Arya secured A+ in 10 subjects, Raji got A+ in 9 subjects in SSLC examinations.
