The producers of Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan are reportedly planning to withdraw the case of censor board and approach the Revising Committee. A final decision will be taken today.
Jana Nayagan was scheduled for worldwide release as a Pongal treat on January 9. But the movie could not clear the formalities of the Censor Board. The makers approached Madras High Court seeking direction from the Board to clear it with a U/A certificate, and they were successful in it.
However, the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) filed a writ petition. The Chief Justice Division Bench has set aside the earlier Single Judge order and sent the matter back for a fresh hearing. Now, the legal process will take longer than expected, and the film will not release in February.
Hence, the buzz in the media is that the producer, KVN Production, has decided to withdraw the censor case and approach the Revising Committee. A final decision on revising the committee or continuing the case before a single judge—will be taken tomorrow.
A journalist named Laxmi Kanth tweeted, "#JanaNayagan - According to the latest news, the production house is considering the option of withdrawing the censor certificate case for Vijay's Jananayagan and approaching the Revising Committee... A final decision on whether to move to the Revising Committee or continue the case before the single judge is expected to be taken tomorrow."
However, experts feel that Jana Nayagan should be released after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Sreedhar Pillai tweeted, "After HC set aside the single judge order that favoured #JanaNayagan the chances of the film releasing in Feb seems remote. Looks like will take longer time for the legal issues to be sorted out. Trade people feel best way forward is to wait for CC and release after TN elections."
Ramesh Bala tweeted, "If #JanaNayagan doesn't release before #2026TNELECTIONS, @TVKVijayHQ has to double his efforts in campaigning." In February alone, he has to do at-least 2 public meetings every week. He has to attack BJP also. Otherwise, there will be a perception that he is afraid of them!"
