If Jana Nayagan is not released on 6th or 13th February, the movie might face a big delay due to the impending TN Assembly election announcement by the Election Commission, say the experts.

The writ appeal filed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has not been listed before the Chief Justice's Bench of the Madras High Court for pronouncing orders today (January 22). The makers have to wait till this evening to know whether the orders will be pronounced on Friday (January 23) or not.

If the judgement does not get pronounced on Friday, the next possible date will only be January 27 (Tuesday), because January 26 is a national holiday. Jana Nayagan will have to be released on February 6th or 13th. If not released on these dates, it will be further delayed due to the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, say the experts from the industry.

Producer G Dhananjheyan tweeted, "#JanaNayagan court battle is becoming a long drawn process for a good solution. Looks like it might drag in procedural delays. Strongly feel @KvnProductions must rethink their strategy as the film must release by Feb 6th or 13th, else might face a big delay due to impending TN Assembly election announcement by Election Commission soon after that."

Jana Nayagan is the last movie of Thalapathy Vijay, and there is a lot of curiosity about it. "Millions of fans across the globe are waiting to see #ThalapathyVijay one last time before he is fully into politics. Just don't miss to release before Feb 2026, Team #KVNProductions," wrote the producer.

Jana Nayagan is a political action thriller film, which is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. The film stars Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani. It is a remake of the 2023 Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari.

Jana Nayagan was scheduled to release on 9 January 2026, but the film has been indefinitely delayed due to censorship issues. The CBFC did not grant a certificate after recommending cuts that Vijay had agreed to. State CM M. K. Stalin has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government of politicizing CBFC. Vijay has appealed to the Madras High Court and has the support of the state government.
