On Wednesday (August 15), the world's largest democracy will celebrate its 72nd Independence Day. India, which attained Independence from the British rule on 15 August 1947, celebrates the day by unfurling the tricolour and paying tributes to its freedom fighters.

The main function of Independence Day is held at Red Fort in New Delhi, where prime minister hoists the national flag and addresses the nation. Narendra Modi will hoist the tricolour for the fifth time as the Prime Minister of India.

While the day is an occasion to reminisce every good thing that our motherland has achieved and has done for its people, it is also the time to pay tribute and respect the ones who have died for our country. India's Independence movement, which spanned over 190 years, started with the First War of Independence in 1857 to end the East India Company rule (1757-1858) in the subcontinent and then against the British Raj, who ruled the country between 1858 and 1947.

On the occasion of Independence Day, we bring you patriotic messages, inspiring quotes, slogans and more here.
