Eid al-Fitr will mark the end of the ninth and the holiest month in the Islamic calendar - Ramadan. Eid will be celebrated around the world for three days, with feasts and people greeting each other 'Eid Mubarak'.
Eid al-Fitr marks the beginning of the 10th month in Islamic calendar called Shawwal [Read: When is Eid al-Fitr 2014?].

Interesting Facts
When did Eid start: Prophet Muhammad celebrated the first Eid al-Fitr in 624 CE with his friends and relatives, after winning the Jang-e-Badar battle.
Meaning: In Arabic, the word Eid means festivity and the word Fitr means breaking fast, and hence it is known as the "festival of fast-breaking".
The day before Eid: Muslims donate food such as rice, barley or dates the day before Eid al-Fitr and it is called as Sadaqah al-Fitr or the charity of fast-breaking.
