Bhumi Pednekar has given Bollywood some of the most unconventional and hard-hitting films. From her debut movie 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha', 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' to 'Lust Stories' and 'Bhakshak'; Bhumi has shown her versatility one film after the other. However, her last Netflix release – The Royals – didn't live up to the audience's expectations.
Bhumi was mercilessly trolled for her acting and expressions in the film. Many said she was better off as a casting director instead and many criticised her for going over-the-board. Such intense was the backlash that Bhumi decided to fade off from the public eye. In a recent interview, Pednekar has revealed that she took a 6-month long break and even went to Harvard university during this time.

The toll the trolling took
"There was a lot of trolling, a lot of bots. But there was also constructive criticism. That experience made me take some drastic decisions in my life, one of which was to take a break," she told The Hollywood Reporter. The talented actress further said that she had lost out on the spark of being an actor and was drained over the years. However, chose not to announce her break as she didn't want to dramatise it.

Can she survive?
Bhumi then decided to take a step back to analyse her capabilities better and come out of the bubble that an actor gets accustomed to. "I had completely lost perspective of who I am as an actor and as a person. I needed to step back and reconnect with myself," she added. Bhumi worked on making her mineral water brand bigger, read books, watched movies, travelled and experienced different things.
"I wanted to experience what it feels like to be by myself. If I lost everything, would I survive? And I know I will," she added. The experience has now recharged her. "I was broken. I was completely done. Now, I'm replenished and ready to work," she said.
Bhumi will next be seen in Amazon Prime's crime thriller 'Daldal' where she will be seen playing the role of Mumbai top cop Rita Ferreira.
