BJP MLA from Fatehpur Sikri Choudhary Udai Bhan Singh is accused of leading a mob in Agra on Saturday evening, demanding the release of five Bajrang Dal men who had been arrested in Fatehpur Sikri. After he left the spot, a policeman was attacked and his vehicle set on fire by members said to be of the Bajrang Dal who were looking to free their compatriots.

Newly appointed UP DGP Sulkhan Singh had said on Saturday itself that "anybody indulging in criminal activities will not be spared, whether from ruling party or not." He had also said that he had "strict orders" to that effect from newly-elected UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath. It now remains to be seen how he acts on the current incident, which has its roots in an FIR being lodged against nine people for assaulting a man from a minority community.

A complaint against these nine men was registered at the Fatehpur Sikri police station. Bajrang Dal activists then gathered there and protested against the police case against them, and demanded that the case be taken back. The agitation got out of hand, and the cops arrested five people for perpetrating violence.

These arrested people were then sent to the Sadar Bazar police station, where they were put behind bars. On getting this information, BJP MLA Choudhary Udai Bhan Singh led a group of men to the police station in protest against their arrest. The attack on the policeman and his vehicle happened after Singh had left the spot, said the cops.

The policeman who the Bajrang Dal attacked on Saturday evening demanding the release of the aforementioned five people is Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar, who is attached with the Sahganj police station. He sustained some injuries and his vehicle was set on fire, said local sources.
