The world is in shock following the tragic and horrifying crash of an Air India Boeing 787, which claimed 242 lives. Air India Flight AI171, en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed into a hospital cafeteria just minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, June 12.
The crash was so devastating that nearly all passengers on board lost their lives, except for one survivor. The deceased included 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian.
The lone survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, is seen emerging from the wreckage, almost like a divine miracle. In the video, recorded just seconds after the crash, Vishwash is seen walking through the burning debris while chaos erupts around him.
The video also shows locals running in panic, confused and terrified. Amid the screaming and pleas for help, Vishwash appears calm, walking away from the crash site in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad. A thick cloud of smoke from the impact looms in the background, while Vishwash glances back several times, seemingly in disbelief.
Vishwash was returning to the UK after visiting family in India. He was seated in seat 11A, while his elder brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, who also boarded the flight, was seated in a different row and sadly did not survive.
Families bid tearful goodbye to their loved ones who died in air crash
Meanwhile, on June 16, families received the mortal remains of victims who died in the crash. Among them was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. His remains were handed over by civil hospital authorities in Ahmedabad and laid to rest on Monday. His wife and family members bid a tearful farewell.
Several heart-wrenching visuals have surfaced online, showing the inconsolable grief of crew members' families. In the clip, the crew member of Air India, Saineeta Chakravarty's mother, is seen crying inconsolably upon seeing her daughter's mortal remains.
