Xiaomi held the first Mi 5 flash sale in China on March 1, but it ran out of stock within minutes.The company had reportedly received around 16.8 million registration for Monday's flash sale, but Xiaomi had not disclosed how many units were made available on the flash sale day.
My Drivers has reported citing a Taiwanese economic daily has revealed that there were only 4 million units in the inventory, four times lesser than the number of people registered for the flash sale. Taking note of the skewed supply-demand ratio, the company has asked supply partners Foxconn and Inventec to increase the phone production to meet the demand.

With next sale scheduled for March 8, it remains to be seen how many units will be made available by the company.
In a related development, Xiaomi vice-president (global operation) Hugo Barra, while hosting the Redmi Note 3 launch event in New Delhi, announced that the flagship smartphone Mi 5 will be released in India next month.

For the uninitiated, the new Xiaomi Mi5 series comes in three variants housing different storage and CPU configuration. The top-end model will be called Mi 5 Pro, which comes with Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt memory. Whereas, the other two variants ship with 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820+3GB+32GB and 1.8GHz Snapdragon+3GB RAM and 64GB storage.
Other specifications remain same in all the three models. They come with 5.15-inch full HD display and fingerprint sensor at the bottom, which also doubles up as the home button, latest Android Marshmallow OS-based MIUI v7.0, 16MP Sony IMX298 camera, 4MP snapper on the front, 3000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
