An Indian social business has launched the country's first solar satellite television service. Simpa Networks, which began operations in 2011, is going to bring clean energy powered entertainment to various households and businesses through a pay-as-you-go payment scheme.

The Simpa Magic TV delivers over 100 free-to-air satellite channels including comedy, entertainment, news, movies and music and all of then come at the same price— Rs 25,000 as any non-solar television.

This solar-powered television is indeed a blessing to almost 1.3 billion Indians who have no access to electricity. "Rooftop solar has a role to play in both off-grid and on-grid areas. In many cases, it's the fastest and least expensive way to get power into the homes and businesses in rural area," said Simpa Network CEO Piyush Mathur.
