10 killed in Assam firing, locals block Assam-Arunachal Pradesh highway in protest

Sonitpur, Jan 30 (ANI): Locals in Sonitpur district of Assam blocked the National Highway 52 connecting the state with neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh in protest against the killing of 10 people in an alleged land dispute. Ten people were killed and 12 others injured after a dispute over eviction from encroached land in the area turned ugly. The area has been a bone of contention between the two states for decades. New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): Union Oil Minister Veerappa Moily on Thursday announced a raise in the quota of subsidized LPG cylinders from 9 to 12 per household in a year. He said that from February 1, every month one subsidized cylinder will be available to each household. The move comes days after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, had demanded raising the ceiling.
