Girls having sex before marriage should be punished, restates Abu Azmi

Mumbai, April 11 (ANI): After Mulayam Singh Yadav sparked controversy on Thursday by questioning the amended anti-rape law and the death sentence for rapists, Maharashtra Samajwadi Party chief Abu Azmi came up with another outrageous comment saying irrespective of consent any woman having sex with a man should be hanged. Restating his stand Azmi on Friday said that no one will like it if an unmarried couple is living together and having sex before marriage and they should be punished.

Kejriwal accuses Congress & BJP of playing dirty politics

Amritsar, April 11 (ANI): AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, during a road show in Amritsar on Friday, accused the ruling Congress party and the BJP of playing dirty politics and sticking to the seat of power while trying to topple his AAP government in Delhi. He also said that AAP had no other option than leaving the government as both Congress and BJP were behind them, not allowing any proper functioning of their government and passage of important bills. Kejriwal further added that to save the nation both the prime ministerial candidates BJP’s Narendra Modi and Congress’ Rahul Gandhi have to be driven out of the country. Kejriwal was holding a road show in Amritsar to support his candidate, Dr. Daljit Singh, who is contesting from the city.

IPL spot fixing case: SC turns down BCCIs request for transcripts of taped recording

New Delhi, April 11 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday turned down BCCI’s request for the transcripts of taped recording of MS Dhoni, N Srinivasan and Sundar Raman before the justice Mukul Mudgal panel that investigated the IPL betting and spot-fixing case. The court also said that the hearing on the matter will take place on April 16. Earlier, BCCI said it needed the transcript to prepare themselves for the matter before the hearing of the main case on April 16.

Women activists condemn Mulayams remark on rape law

New Delhi/ Lucknow/ Patna, April 11 (ANI): Women activists on Friday condemned SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s remark on rape law wherein he said that it was unfair to award death penalty to rapists for their 'mistakes'. AIWC President Shobha Oza said that it is unfortunate and that rape is a heinous crime and that there should be no leniency towards rapists. AIMWPLB Chairperson Shaista Amber said that the statement is shocking and that Election Commission should take action against such act. Further, Women's Rights Campaigner Kavita Krishnan said that Yadav is trivializing rape and that there should be a model code of conduct on such statements.

Delhi gang rape victims parents condemn Mulayam for defending rapists

New Delhi, April 11 (ANI): The parents of Delhi gang rape victim condemned Samajwadi Party Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's comment that three rape convicts sentenced to death in Mumbai "made a mistake" and did not deserve to be hanged. The victim’s mother said that rape is not a mistake by any chance and that it is just a crime. Further, her father said that Yadav is from SP and is also a prime ministerial candidate from the party and such remarks from political leaders would encourage the criminals and demotivate women of the society. They also appealed the people not to vote for such politicians who have such negative ideas about women security.

Deported Pakistani labourers arrive in Oman

Karachi, April 11 (ANI): Smuggled to Oman by human traffickers and ending up in deportation, a batch of nearly 400 worn-out Pakistani job seekers, arrived in Karachi by a cargo vessel. The job seekers, most of them illiterate labourers and hailing from upcountry, had been smuggled to the Gulf state through Taftan crossing at the Pakistan-Iran border illegally. Then they were taken to a jetty from where they were abandoned on the coast of Oman. A deported labourer hailing from Karachi, Fazal Subhan, said he was deported following one month in prison after being held during a crackdown against illegal residents in Oman.

Mumbai shoe godown catches fire, no casualties reported

Mumbai, April 11 (ANI): A shoe warehouse in Mumbai caught fire on Friday while the firefighters struggled to douse the raging inferno. The fire fighters at the site reported that the incident took place at around 2.00 am (IST) and it took around eight Fire tenders to douse the blaze. The ranging inferno also resulted in huge loss of property but no causalities were reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

LS polls: Voting commences in Mizoram for single seat

Mizoram, April 11 (ANI): Voting for a single Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram constituency began on Friday, for which additional eight companies of central para-military forces have been deployed. The Mizoram Lok Sabha seat is witnessing a three-cornered contest between the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and the United Democratic Front which is an alliance of eight opposition parties. An electorate of 7,02,189, of whom 3,55,954 are women are eligible to cast votes in 1,126 polling stations. In 385 polling stations, mainly in urban areas, the VVPAT system, under which a paper trail would show the voters their choice of candidates, has been installed.
