After becoming the most-hyped movie of the megastar, Nithin Renji Panicker's debut directorial venture is said to have grossed more than Rs. 7 crore during its first weekend at the Kerala box office.

According to trade analysts, the four-day gross collection of the movie is Rs. 7.35 crore. The cop movie, in which CI Rajan Zacharia (Mammootty) unfolds the mystery behind a death, opened to a tremendous response from the fans of the actor. "Kasaba" is expected to break the one-week collection record of Dulquer Salmaan's "Kali," and the multi-starrers, "Bangalore Days" and "Amar Akbar Anthony," in the coming days. While director Sameer Thahir's "Kali" earned Rs. 8.31 crore, the Anjali Menon-directed "Bangalore Days" and Nadirshah-directed "Amar Akbar Anthony" collected Rs. 8.50 crore and Rs. 8.56 crore, respectively, within seven days of their theatrical run in the state.

However, the Mammootty-starrer has to earn more than Rs. 3 crore to break the 7-day collection record of the blockbuster romantic family entertainer, "Premam," which had raked in approximately Rs. 10.4 crore within a week from Kerala alone. It is understood that the noon and matinee shows of "Kasaba" are witnessing an average status during the weekdays, while the first shows have better theatre occupancy in many screens. With the latest box office collection figures, "Kasaba" is estimated to become one of the highest grossing movie of the megastar.

The action thriller has Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Sampath in the main roles, along with Neha Saxena, Jagadish, Abu Salim, Maqbool Salmaan and Siddhique in pivotal roles.
