Among the Eid releases in Kerala, Asif Ali and Biju Menon's romantic family entertainer "Anuraga Karikkin Vellam" has been receiving amazing response from movie-goers for being a feel good movie. The Khalid Rahman-directed film, which had locked horns with Mammootty's "Kasaba" at the Kerala box office upon their release on July 7, has now emerged as the winner at multiplexes in Kochi.

The family entertainer "Anuraga Karikkin Vellam" is said to have crossed Rs. 1 crore mark at the Kochi multiplexes by minting approximately Rs. 1.05 crore within 18 days of its release. The latest collection figures would make the Asif and Rajisha Vijayan-starrer the biggest grosser at the multiplexes in Kochi among the Eid 2016 releases. According to BookMyShow website, "Anuraga Karikkin Vellam" has more than 30 shows per day at multiplexes in Kochi, while "Kasaba" has only four shows per day. The total Kerala gross collection of the film is said to be Rs 7.90 crore within 18 days of its release.

However, "Kasaba" has become the biggest Eid grosser at the Kerala box office and is believed to have earned a gross collection of more than Rs. 12 crore within 18 days of its theatrical run in the state. Nithin Renji Panicker's debut directorial venture has already become the Malayalam film with the biggest opening day collection, shattering the record of Dulquer Salmaan's "Kali." The Mammootty-starrer is said to have earned Rs. 2.43 crore, breaking the records of the Dulquer-starrer, which had collected Rs. 2.34 crore on its first day at Kerala box office.

While "Anuraga Karikkin Vellam" opened to a positive response from the audience, "Kasaba" garnered mixed response, leading to several controversies as well. The Kerala Women's Commission has decided to issue a notice to the film's cast and crew for including certain scenes that are degrading to women in the cop thriller, in which Mammootty is seen as CI Rajan Zacharia.
