At the Zee Cine Awards 2026, held on Sunday, March 1, Kriti Sanon won the Best Actress award for her performance in Tere Ishk Mein. Soon after, a section of netizens began debating the result on social media, claiming Kriti did not deserve the win. Many argued that Yami Gautam for Haq or Kangana Ranaut for Emergency should have taken the award instead.
Several reels mocking the decision went viral, with some users trolling Kriti and calling her an undeserving winner. The situation escalated further on Thursday when a Reddit post claimed that Yami Gautam had liked a reel questioning Kriti's Best Actress win. The claim spread quickly online, leading to trolling directed at Yami.
On Friday, Yami addressed the controversy through her Instagram story, clarifying that the action was not intentional. She wrote, "It has come to my notice that I apparently liked a reel that is condescending toward another actor. We get tagged in multiple things every day, and this appeared during an award-function reference like any other tag. It isn't true and was definitely not done consciously; if anything, it may have been clicked accidentally."
She added. "Never in my life have I resorted to cheap PR tactics. I have always focused on my work and moved on. In the world of clickbait, it's tempting for even dignified social media portals to turn this into coffee-table gossip, but I hope they consider that I have earned a better reputation than that."
Yami further added that she does not have a PR team and prefers to remain focused on her work rather than get involved in such controversies.
