Yamaha Motors India recalls 9 units: 7 YZF-R1 and 2 YZF-R1M

Two-wheeler manufacturer Yamaha Motors has issued a voluntary recall of its ZF-R1 and YZF-R1M superbikes in India to fix the problem with the faulty gearbox.

The recall affects a total of 9 units, which include  7 units of YZF-R1 and 2 units of YZF-R1M. The latest recall is part of Yamaha's global call-back in which the company recalled the superbikes manufactured in 2015.

The owners of the nine affected models will be contacted by the company and the repair will be done free of cost at the dealers'. The problem will be rectified by replacing the transmission with a modified one and Yamaha plans to begin the recall exercise through a factory modification campaign. Yamaha maintained that the recall is voluntary and no such problems have been reported so far in India.

"India Yamaha Motor has decided to run a voluntary recall campaign on 9 units of motorcycles which include 7 units of YZF-R1 and 2 units of YZF-R1M. We will be rectifying the error by replacing the transmission with a modified one on a free-of-cost basis," said Ravinder Singh, Vice President, Strategy & Planning, Yamaha Motor India Sales while announcing the recall.
