It looks like all is not well with Yamaha's newly-launched sportsbike YZF-R3 in India. If emerging reports are true, no unit of R3 was sold in India in the month of October.

Yamaha R3, the quarter-litre motorcycle which made its India debut in August this year, had made cumulative sales of 396 units during the August-September period. However, not even a single unit of the model was sold in the country in October, reports MotorBeam.

Although the reason for this is not clear yet, the report adds Yamaha could have sold out the allocated numbers YZF-R3s within the first two months of its market entry. However, contrary to this, a report in Shifting Gears says Yamaha dealers are shying away from this model as the company wants them to take 20 units of Yamaha regular models to get one R3.

YZF-R3, which has been launched in India as CKD (Completely Knock Down) units from the company's manufacturing plant in Indonesia, has been priced at Rs 3.25 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. Powered by a 321-cc twin-cylinder fuel-injected engine, which can churn out 42 PS of power at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm, Yamaha R3 comes mated to a six-speed transmission.

Yamaha R3 is 2,090 mm long, 720 mm wide, 1,135 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 1,380 mm. The module offers a ground clearance of 160 mm, and comes with a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres.
