Yakub Memon, who was hanged at Nagpur Central Jail on Thursday morning, was allowed to talk to his daughter as per his last wish. He was relieved and happy after the conversation, some reports said.

As part of a formality before the execution, Yakub, one of the masterminds of the 1993 Mumabi blasts, was asked about his last wish. He wanted to meet his 21-year-old daughter. "I want to meet my daughter," he reportedly said.

After receiving Yakub's body from the jail authorities, his brother spoke to the media and said that the authorities allowed him to talk to his daughter over phone. He was happy and relieved after talking to her, his brother informed. It is not known what Yakub spoke with his daughter.

Yakub was a post graduate in commerce and was running chartered accountancy firm 'Mehta & Memon Associates' with his childhood friend Chetan Mehta. After parting ways with Mehta, he founded another accountancy firm 'AR & Sons'.

He was arrested by the CBI in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts, which had claimed the lives of 257 people and left another 700 people injured. On 21 March 2013, the Supreme Court confirmed Memon's conviction and death sentence, awarded by a special Tada court.

The 53-year-old was hanged around 6.30 am. A doctor declared him dead after 30 minutes and his body was handed over to his family members with some conditions on his funeral and the display of his photographs in public.

It may be recalled that the then UPA government had not allowed handing over the bodies of terrorists like Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru to their families after the execution.
