The wait for Xiaomi Mi 5 is getting painful by the day with its release date remaining a suspense, despite speculations about it doing the rounds since July. However, it looks like the device will be unveiled soon, most probably by the end of this year.

It was reported that the Xiaomi Mi 5 would be unveiled in July before releasing in August. Later, the date was pushed to 24 September but it never happened. It is now being reported that the device will be released this year. WCCF Tech had earlier reported citing sources from Beijing that it will be announced by the end of November.

However, one has to take reports on Xiaomi Mi 5 release date with a pinch of salt as the Chinese smartphone maker is yet to officially announce any detail about its upcoming next-generation device.

According to reports that have appeared so far, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to have several feature upgrades over its predecessor, the Mi 4. It is expected to sport a 5.2-inch QHD touchscreen with 2560 x 1440 pixels screen resolution and protected by Gorilla Glass 4 and have features like fingerprint sensor and Type-C USB port. The device is likely to be priced at $399, approximately Rs 26,500.

Under the hoods, the smartphone is expected to have Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, 32/64 GB internal memory and 4 GB RAM, 16 MP main camera with optical Image stabilisation (OIS) and 5 MP secondary snapper and 3000mAh battery.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi 4 sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels (441ppi pixel density), powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and runs on Android 4.4.3 KitKat. It also houses a 16/64 GB internal memory, 3 GB RAM, 13 MP main camera, 8 MP front snapper and a non-removable 3080 mAh battery.
