Xiaomi appears to be following footsteps of major smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung in terms of technology and there are speculations that its upcoming flagship device Mi 5 could prove that.

The Chinese smartphone maker is reportedly joining the "3D Touch" bandwagon soon. And there are reports that the technology seen in Apple's recently released device iPhone 6s could be seen in the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5.

A well-known Chinese tipster has claimed on Weibo that Xiaomi has "patented a new technology similar to Apple's 3D Touch", according to a report by GforGames. The report went on to say that it is not clear whether Xiaomi will develop its own technology or use Synaptics' ClearForce" technology.

The report came on the heels of Apple introducing  in its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices. It is also reported that Samsung may use the same technology in its future devices, arguing that the company has already patented it in 2014.

It was reported that Xiaomi Mi 4 successor would be released on 19 October but that didn't happen. In fact, Xiaomi's president and co-founder Lin Bin rubbished the rumours in a Weibo post but he didn't reveal the release date.

There are reports doing the rounds that Xiaomi Mi 5 will be unveiled by the end of this year but nothing is confirmed as of now. WCCF Tech had earlier reported citing sources from Beijing that the device may see the light of day by the end of November.

According to reports, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will come with a 5.2-inch QHD touchscreen with 2560 x 1440 pixels screen resolution and protected by Gorilla Glass 4, fingerprint sensor and Type-C USB port.
