Akshay Kumar's "Airlift" has become a superhit film of 2016, while Sunny Deol's "Ghayal Once Again" has grossed over Rs 50 crore in its first week run from the worldwide box office.


Kumar's "Airlift" is unstoppable at the worldwide box office. The film, based on a real-life story, has grossed more than Rs 223 crore worldwide in three weeks, successfully registering itself in the superhit films list.

"Airlift" earned approximately Rs 124 crore net (Rs 178.56 crore gross) from the domestic box office and close to Rs 45 crore from the overseas box office. After 21-days, the worldwide business of the film stands at Rs 223 crore, reports. The Raja Menon directorial had a decent third weekend, but the collection started to fall after that.

Overall, "Airlift" is one of the most successful Bollywood films of all time. It is Kumar's second highest grosser, after "Rowdy Rathore," and has made a profit of around 210 percent at the box office.

"Airlift" was released on Jan. 22, along with adult comedy "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3". The film, based on the biggest evacuation of Indians in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait Gulf war, also features Nimrat Kaur, Purab Kohli, Kumud Mishra and Prakash Belawadi in pivotal roles.

Ghayal Once Again (Ghayal Returns)

The Deol starrer had a decent first week with an approximate worldwide box office income of Rs 50 crore. The revenge drama had a good opening weekend of Rs 23.25 crore, but the film failed to maintain the buzz during the weekdays. Box office numbers started to dwindle from Monday and it remained on the lower side through the week.

"#GhayalOnceAgain Fri 7.20 cr, Sat 7.65 cr, Sun 8.40 cr, Mon 3.60 cr, Tue 2.70 cr, Wed 2.53 cr. Total: ₹ 32.08 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The net domestic first week box office income of "Ghayal Once Again" is Rs 32.08 crore (Rs 45.83 crore gross), while the opening weekend overseas collection stands at Rs 5 crore. The seven-day global box office earnings of "Ghayal Once Again" stand at Rs 50.97 crore.
