Ravindra Narayana Ravi, currently Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been appointed Governor of West Bengal. A 1976-batch IPS officer (Kerala cadre), Ravi spent much of his career in the Intelligence Bureau handling internal security assignments. After retirement, he served as the Government of India's interlocutor for the Naga peace process, playing a central role in negotiations with insurgent groups in the northeast.

He was appointed Governor of Nagaland in 2019 and moved to Tamil Nadu in 2021, where his tenure was often marked by friction with the elected state government over legislative bills and gubernatorial powers. His transfer to West Bengal places him in another politically charged state with potential Centre–state contestation.

Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the current Governor of Kerala and a senior BJP leader from Goa, has been asked to discharge the functions of the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Arlekar has decades of experience in state politics, having served multiple terms in the Goa Legislative Assembly, including Speaker and Leader of the Opposition, and was Governor of Himachal Pradesh from 2021 to 2023. His additional charge in Tamil Nadu comes amid ongoing constitutional friction between the Raj Bhavan and the state government.
