Cricket fans wanting to watch matches in the World T20 at the stadiums can finally make plans to do so, as the widely-anticipated ticket sales begins today. The ICC World T20 is just a fortnight away, with the qualifiers starting from March 8.
The sale of tickets for India matches, semifinals and final are going to be conducted through an online lottery process.
The sale of tickets has been divided into two phases with the first phase starting Wednesday for matches in five venues -- Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamsala, Kolkata and Mohali. Tickets for venues such as Mumbai, Delhi and Nagpur will take place in Phase 2. The date for Phase 2 has not been announced.
The BCCI has appointed BookMyShow to sell the World T20 tickets.
"Phase 1 of the ICC WT20 ticket sale will go live, 24th February 2016. BCCI has appointed BookMyShow as the ticketing agency for the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016. This would encompass all matches being played, including the women's fixtures," the ICC statement read.
"Phase 1 of the ticket sale will see tickets go on sale for the matches (excluding India matches and the Semi Finals & Final of the men's and women's events) to be played at the following venues Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamsala, Kolkata and Mohali. The online sale of tickets as will commence at 12:00 noon on 24th February 2016."
In order to provide everyone a fair chance to book their tickets for India matches, semifinals and final, which are expected to be in huge demand, the authorities have decided to adopt an online lottery system. Cricket fans can purchase two tickets per person.
Interested cricket fans need to fill up an online registration form to be eligible for the tickets draw. The winners will be chosen via an automated process.
"The interested users who register for a match of their choice, will be automatically moved to a draw and then through an automated process, the winners will be chosen. The winners from the random draw will then be given an opportunity to buy tickets for the match they have opted for and will receive a payment link to complete their booking," the statement read.
