The villains are rising in "Gotham" city, and the heroes are dwindling in numbers, with the most notable one being Commissioner Essen (Zabryna Guevara). In upcoming episode 3 titled "The Last Laugh" we will see more of the havoc wrecked by "The Maniax".

Although Essen was killed in the first war raged by The Maniax, it resulted in the return of Harvey (Donal Logue), who will join his old partner Jim Gordron (Ben McKenzie) and protect the streets of Gotham from the villains. According to the official synopsis of "The Last Laugh", Harvey and Gordon will hunt down a nemesis from the past paving way for an ultimate showdown between Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) and Gordon.

In the preview clip for season 2 episode 3, we see Jerome, the proto-Joker torturing and killing his biological father Paul Cicero (Mark Margolis). Although Cicero reminds Jerome he does not need to "do this", Jerome replies that he wants to and asks him to say hello to his mother – who was also murdered by Jerome.

The Maniax, under the guidance of Theo Galavan (James Frain) and his sister Tabitha (Jessica Lucas), are planning something huge, which Jerome believes will prove to all of Gotham that he is a "star". In another scene he is seen pressing a gun against a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). It is an iconic moment in the series, as we see the greatest nemeses Batman and Joker meet each other for the first time.

Meanwhile, Nygma aka The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) – another great Batman villain – is slipping deeper into insanity. In the previous episode we saw him saving Ms. Kringle (Chelsea Spack) when The Maniax attacked the GCPD. Will this help Nygma win her affections, or will Kringle reject him despite him saving her life, pushing Nygma further towards insanity?

Watch out for season 2 episode 3 of "Gotham" at 8.00 pm (EST) on Monday, 5 October on FOX. You can also live stream "The Last Laugh" via Fox Now.
