German carmaker Volkswagen is gearing up to roll out anti-lock braking system (ABS) as standard across all trims in its Polo hatchback. Currently, airbag is offered as standard, while ABS is offered in Polo Comfortline and Highline variants.

Polo with ABS as standard fitment is expected to be available at the showrooms soon. The carmaker is also expected to roll out the same feature across all variants of Vento sedan too. If this holds true, Volkswagen will be the second carmaker in India to offer airbags and ABS as standard across all the variants after Toyota. The carmakers in India are rolling out safety features to comply with safety norms expected to come in force by 2018.

Volkswagen recently expanded its Polo line-up in India with performance hatchback -- Polo GTI -- with a price tag of Rs 25.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Thane). Polo GTI with 189bhp of power is available for bookings in the country at select Volkswagen dealerships.

Currently available in the three-door version, Polo GTI comes powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol mill that can churn out 189bhp of power with seven-speed DSG gearbox. The engine can propel the powerful hatchback to reach 0-100 kmph in 7.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 233 kmph.

The company has also updated the sedan Vento with 1 .5-litre TDI mill, which also does duty in the Ameo compact sedan and the new Skoda Rapid. The upgraded 1.5-litre TDi engine generates 108bhp of power and 250Nm of torque and the transmission is handled by a five-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
