When it comes to popularity with the bat, none can surpass the living legend, Sachin Tendulkar. He is definitely one of the best batsmen that the game of cricket has ever produced. Many have compared Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli with Tendulkar but it is too early to draw comparisons.

But Twitter has something else to say. Virat Kohli has crossed 8,000,000 followers on the social media platform surpassing Tendulkar's 7,730,000. Kohli has thus become the most followed and popular cricketer!

Many believe that he is the ideal batsman to carry the baton for Indian batting lineup after the world saw legends like Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag.

Kohli thanked his fans on Twitter after crossing the 8,000,000 mark. He also said that he was delighted to see the love and support of his fans and expressed his gratitude as well.

Kohli recently became the first Indian Test captain to win an overseas series after losing the first game of the three-match tour. Not only this, he also led India to end their 22-year wait of winning a Test series in Sri Lanka against the hosts. His coach Rajkumar Sharma said that he wanted to change certain things in the dressing room after he was handed over the captain's cap.

"We had a good chat before the team left for Sri Lanka. Virat was very clear about wanting to change the team's culture and start winning overseas. Many a time, they came close to winning, but it didn't happen. He went with a killer instinct on the Sri Lanka tour and he wants all his teammates to have the same kind of self-belief. Winning abroad is his goal," Sharma said in an interview to Mid-Day.
