Vijay TV Awards, which was supposed to be held on Saturday, May 26, has been reportedly postponed. The ongoing Sterlite protest is said to be the reason behind the channel's decision to cancel the event at the last minute.

"The 10th #VijayAwards which was scheduled to be held tomo has been postponed to a later date. Thoughtful move by @vijaytelevision respecting public sentiment over the #SterliteProtest and #ThoothukudiShooting Respects . [sic]" actress Harathi, who was part of Vijay TV's Bigg Boss Tamil, tweeted.

Tamil Nadu witnessed a shocking shootout on the Sterlite agitators on Tuesday, May 22, which took 13 lives and left over 100 injured. A huge crowd had gathered to mark the 100th day of protest against the expansion of UK-based Vedanta Resources' Copper plant in its Thoothukudi factory. The protestors were denied permission to march toward the copper smelter plant after Section 144 of the IPC was enforced in the area following the Madras High Court's order.

However, the cops opened fire when the mob resorted to violence.

Coming to the awards ceremony, it was supposed to be held on Saturday, May 26, in Chennai which was expected to be attended by some of the big names from Kollywood that include Kamal Haasan, Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Suriya and Sivakarthikeyan.

Actresses like Anjali, Dhanshika, Sayyeesha Saigal and many more were expected to thrill the viewers with their performance.
