The Jubilee Hills police have registered a case against Tollywood comedian Vijay Sai's wife Vanitha Reddy for harassing him and forcing him to commit suicide, but she has denied being responsible for it.

Vijay Sai, well known for his role in Telugu movie Bommarillu, committed suicide by hanging at his flat in Hyderabad on Monday. Before killing himself, the comedian reportedly made a video in which he detailed about the people, who were harassing him.

In the video, Vijay Sai had reportedly claimed that his wife Vanitha Reddy, a Telugu TV serial actress, and an advocate named Shashidhar, harassed him and drove him to take the drastic step. Based on the video from his mobile, the Jubilee Hills police have registered a complaint under section 306 (abetment to commit suicide) against her and the lawyer.

Vijay Sai and Vanitha had been married for five years and they have a daughter. But they had been living separately since 2015, following some disputes. Vijay's father Subba Rao said that he had tried to negotiate but Vanitha did not pay heed. His son was depressed due to harassment by his wife, he said.

It was also reported that Vanitha was demanding Rs 3 crore from her husband Vijay Sai. She had recently filed a domestic violence case against him. "Vanitha filed a petition seeking divorce that is still pending. Recently, she also lodged a complaint of domestic violence against Sai," the New Indian Express quoted DCP A Venkateswar Rao as saying.

However, she denied demanding Rs 3 crore and harassing him. She alleged that the actor had an extramartial relationship with a woman and his father was not ready to give his share of his property.

"We had split almost two years ago as he was having an affair with another woman. If I am responsible, he could have ended his life two years ago. I could only see two reasons behind the suicide. His father's unwillingness to register the latter's property in Ongole in the name of my daughter or Vijay's health issues,'' the Times of India quoted Vanitha as saying.
