Actor Govinda never fails to grab headlines. He is always in the news, not for his films but for his personal life and issues surrounding his marital life. Recently, Sunita, his wife, claimed that Govinda is having an affair with an actress. Although she didn't name anyone, she spoke at length about it, after which divorce rumours between Sunita and Govinda surfaced on social media.
On Tuesday, during a press conference, Govinda shed light on various topics related to his personal and professional life. Govinda targeted filmmaker Karan Johar for making a film in his name.
Veteran actor Govinda has slammed the title of Vicky Kaushal's 2022 comedy-thriller Govinda Naam Mera. Speaking about the film, he said he was surprised it was made using his name and claimed the plot didn't sit right with him, as it was about a man facing trouble in his marriage.
Govinda told ANI, "Kisine mere naam se movie banaya tha. Govinda mera naam. Karan Johar ki thi. Uska subject tha ki actor ki girlfriend ke saath gadbad ho jaati hai aur wife husband par shak karti hai," he said, describing what he believed the story revolved around. The actor then suggested that such a premise feels like an attempt to enter an actor's personal space, adding, "Ye personal life ke andar story ghusadne prayas lagta hai."
(Someone made a film using my name, Govinda Naam Mera. It was Karan Johar's. The subject was about an actor whose girlfriend creates trouble, and because of that, the wife starts doubting her husband," he said, explaining what he believed the story was about.)
The actor then suggested that such a premise felt like an attempt to intrude into an actor's personal life, adding, "It feels like an effort to push a story into someone's personal space."
He added, "Mere haath kabhi lage toh aadarniya Rajinikanth ki tarah itna main prasad dunga. I promise. No misbehave."
Govinda also emphasised that he doesn't enjoy humour that, in his view, comes at someone's expense or feels disrespectful. "Main request karta hoon ki mazaak har tarah se, har jagah se achha nahi lagta," he said, urging people to be more mindful about what they present as entertainment.
(He said, "I request that jokes are not appropriate in every way or in every place," urging people to be more mindful about what they present as entertainment.)

The film was produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and also starred Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani.
Karan Johar has not responded to the allegations or commented on the matter.
Govinda and Sunita tied the knot in 1987. They have two children named Tina Ahuja and Yashvardan Ahuja. In 2024, Govinda sustained a bullet injury in his leg from his revolver and was hospitalised. A few months later, rumours emerged that Govinda and Sunita were headed for divorce. The two dismissed those rumours, with Sunita saying that no one can separate them.
