Simbu and Hansika Motwani starrer "Vaalu", which has earned Rs.8.5 crore in Tamil Nadu, has got a flying start at the Chennai box office, and the movie has beaten new releases like Bollywood film "Brothers" and "Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga" (VSOP) in the first weekend. 

"Vaalu" received a warm welcome from Simbu's fans on the release day. The film registered almost 85% occupancy in majority of the shows and the collections received a boost on Saturday due to the Independence Day holiday where the film almost registered cent percent occupancy.

On Sunday too, "Vaalu" witnessed similar response from the audience. As per Behindwoods, the film has raked in Rs.1.03 crore from 252 shows and it is a huge number for a Simbu movie. This is Silambarasan's first release in three years, which is one of the reasons audience is flocking to theatres. 

The other release "Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga" starring Arya, Santhanam and Tamanna Bhatia is in the second position making Rs.96.40 lakh in the first weekend at the Chennai box office. The film had 204 shows.

Bollywood film "Brothers" has been pushed to the third position. The Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra starrer raked in Rs.21.89 lakh from 87 shows. The business by the Hindi flick is good considering it did not get much shows due to "Vaalu" and "VSOP".

SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali" has now been pushed down to the fourth position. The multilingual flick earned Rs.12.08 lakh from 63 shows, taking its total collection to Rs.7.75 crore by the end of its sixth weekend.

Hollywood movie "Mission Impossible 5 – Rogue Nation" earned Rs.10.85 lakh from 63 shows. The film got a brilliant opening and it is holding well at multiplexes. The total business made by the film by the end of its second weekend stands at Rs. 1.04 crore.
