It is a proud moment for Kannada film industry. A Sandalwood film, which was released last weekend, has become a big hit in the US.

Yes. It is none other than "RangiTaranga". The Kannada movie has opened to an earth-shattering response from the US audience and has created a history. The underlining part of its success story is that the film has managed to beat biggies like Bollywood film "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", "Baahubali" (Hindi version), Tamil film "Vaalu" etc.

"RangiTaranga", which has made above Rs.20 crore business at domestic market, was released on Thursday, 13 August. The Anup Bhandari directorial has raked in $200,250 (Rs. 1.30 crore) in its first weekend. It had 31 shows and majority of the shows ran into packed houses, reports Bollywood Hungama

The Kannada film narrowly missed an opportunity to beat latest Bollywood release "Brothers", which collected $266,175 (Rs. 1.73 crore) from massive 164 shows.

The business made by "Brothers" is less comparatively with "RangiTaranga" as the Bollywood film had much higher shows than the Kannada film.

Salman Khan's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" has earned $93,813 (Rs. 61.36) lakh in its fifth weekend from 53 screens. The total business made by the Salman Khan starrer in the US stands at $6,123,235 (Rs. 40.02 crore).

Latest Tamil release "Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga" has made decent business by earning $63,673 (Rs. 41.61 lakh) from 52 shows. SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali" (Hindi version) has collected $30,891 (Rs. 20.20 lakh) in its fourth weekend. The total business made by the flick in the US stands at Rs. 2.88 crore.

Interestingly, Tamil movie "Vaalu", which has made an impressive debut at the domestic box office, could not make it big in the US box office. The movie could only make $28,751 (Rs. 18.80 lakh) in its opening weekend from 30 shows.

Punjabi movie "Ramta Jogi" and Bollywood film "Bangistan" were the other two films that made decent business in the US last weekend.

Coming back to "RangiTaranga", Ajay Reddy is distributing the Kannada film in the US. The film movie is likely to run for three weeks here. The industry is keenly looking forward to see how much does this film makes in the US as it gives a picture of the Kannada market in the foreign nation.

Sandalwood films are rarely gets screened in the US and hardly have made good business in the US. It is only in the recent years, Kannada films have started making inroads. Earlier, Yash starrer "Mr and Mrs Ramachari" had created buzz in the US.
