Uri-The Surgical Strike

Vicky Kaushal's first big solo release – URI: The Surgical Strike, a combat thriller has definitely kept us hooked till the end. The heroism is celebrated and director Aditya Dhar avoids cliché flag-waving patriotism.

Based on true events, the film revolves around the Indian Army commandos who carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan on  September 18, 2016, killing 38 terrorists.

Vicky Kaushal and debutant director Aditya Dhar have delivered a bold, impactful and a demanding film.

Storyline

On September 18, 2016, four heavily armed militants attacked Indian security forces near the town of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir. The movie is divided into five chapters. Major Vihan Singh Shergill (Vicky Kaushal), leads the operation under the supervision and guidance of Govind (Paresh Rawal), an Indian intelligence & law enforcement officer and PM Narendra Modi (Rajit Kapur). Will he come back home alive with all the soldiers?

Performances

Vicky Kaushal: Flawless, competent and a terrific performance. Vicky carried out each emotion smoothly that will touch your heart. His character is so perfectly written that it feels real.

Yami Gautam: One character that didn't contribute much to the story.

Paresh Rawal: On point. He plays the role of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the man behind the strike.

Positives

The background score will increase your anxiety levels for sure. Impressive and gritty action sequences will keep you engaged. The cinematography, sound, and direction are on so many levels amazing. The best part is that the director has kept a beautiful balance between emotions and action. The entire supporting star cast -- Kirti Kulhari, Swaroop Sampat, Manasi Parekh, Mohit Raina – were terrific. Talking about the music of the film, it is soothing yet powerful. The movie brilliantly projects the feeling of each and every character to the audience.

Negatives

Disappointing factor was the dialogues but my favorite is when you hear Vicky Kaushal saying: "How is the josh" and the troops reply: "High, sir". Trust me, the audience left the theatre with the same feeling.

Verdict

URI: The Surgical Strike is another landmark achievement in Bollywood. This war film is sure to win your heart.
