"Udta Punjab" is a crime thriller film, which deals with the drug abuse in Punjab. The film, which has been written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Chaubey, focuses on the impact and menace of drug abuse on society. The movie is intended to spread awareness about drugs on youth and society in general.
The story of "Udta Punjab" is about four characters — a rock star (Shahid Kapoor), a migrant labourer (Alia Bhatt), a doctor (Kareena Kapoor) and a policeman (Diljit Dosanjh). All these four lives have one connection. The characters from different walks of life are fighting the menace of drugs in their own way.
"Udta Punjab" focuses on the artificial highs and the real lows that they face while treading the paths fraught with mortal dangers. The audience says the movie is a realistic and emotional journey. It is also high on abusive language. Director Abhishek Chaubey has done a brilliant work in scripting the film, and has an amazing grip over the narration of the story. He portrays a serious issue in an entertaining way.
Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh have delivered brilliant performances, which is the highlight of "Udta Punjab." The movie has been produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor under their banners Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Films and has rich production values.

#UdtaPunjab Interval: So far so good. Four intertwined stories, each engrossing in its own way. Up to date and relatable. #UdtaPunjab: Hard hitting film which brings an important topic to the table and pricks you with it. Quite an eye-opener. Liked it. Just finished watching #UdtaPunjab , legally. Moving, touching and thought provoking. Coming of age, brilliant performances by everyone! @aliaa08 is EXCELLENT. Performance that aspiring actors can take as a text book and learn from. #UdtaPunjab is hers. Slow first half, and too rushed. The story of #UdtaPunjab could have been better but the performances lifted the film up. I am no fan of Alia but her character was my favorite in the film. Kareena and Diljit have a sweet onscreen chemistry there scenes was a treat to watch and Kareena in a good role after so long. They cut out the Shahid peeing scene in the theater verison.
