Amazing range of contemporary work at art exhibition in Tamil Nadu enthrals visitors

Coimbatore, Dec 08 (ANI): A three-day exhibition on contemporary work displaying a vast range of artistic practice left visitors spellbound in Tamil Nadu. The exhibition is unique as it displays more than 100 exhibits of nearly 60 talents from across the country. The organiser of the exhibition, Geetha Mehra, said that the exhibition covers a wide range of art works. The exhibition displays mesmerising work on various objects including paper, wood, bronze, plastics, broken glass and mud. The work of Valay Shinde, in particular was widely appreciated. Shinde's work was a tribute to those people who help society function smoothly but receive no recognition. Visitors flocking to the exhibition were amazed at the range of the different mediums on display. The three- day exhibition culminates on December 08.

Chief of Kazakhstan Armed Forces receives Guard of Honour in New Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): Chief of armed forces of Kazakhstan, Colonel General Zhasuzakov Saken Adilkhanovich, who is on a six-day visit to India, received guard of honour in New Delhi on Monday. Adilkhanovich, who arrived in India on Sunday, was received by India's Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha before the ceremony. As per Indian embassy, inter-governmental commission was formed between India-Kazakhstan in 1992 and has been instrumental in developing bilateral trade, economic, scientific, technological, industrial and cultural cooperation. Kazakhstan also cooperates with India in the field of counter terrorism.

Uber Rape case: Transport Dept takes action after driver sent to 3-day police custody

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): In the recent development of Uber cab rape case, the driver has been sent to three-day police custody. The Transport Department has also taken strict action in the case by cancelling the driver’s license and taking action against the particular cab service. Special Commissioner in Transport Department, Kuldeep Singh Ganger, said vehicle’s registration has been cancelled and added that Uber cab service has been banned in Delhi.

Srinagar, Dec 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed a rally in Srinagar city of Jammu and Kashmir. Modi attacked the current state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah saying that the government was asleep when the state witnessed floods. He said that he came running to the state and offered monetary help for victims after which some people showed distrust in government asking for direct help. He also said that he chose to celebrate Diwali with the flood victims and listening to their grief and troubles. Modi also appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to vote for a full majority BJP government.

People from all faiths congregate at annual Urs of Sheikh Noor-Ud-Din

Budgam, Dec 08 (ANI): Kashmir, besides being called as paradise on earth, also houses shrines of various Sufi saints. These saints have preached oneness on the soil of Jammu and Kashmir which is a mix of different religious faiths. Their spirituality and simple life attracted people of different faiths and they embraced their teachings, besides holding them in high regard. It is these teachings of oneness and brotherhood that bind people together and they celebrate them with utmost religious fervor. A similar example is seen at the Shrine of Sheikh Noor Ud Din Noorani (RA) at Chara-i-Sharief in Budgam district of central Kashmir, where devotees pay obeisance to saint and seek his blessings. Thronging the shrine in thousands, the devotees hold the day-and-night-long prayers to pay homage to the saint, besides asking for fulfillment of their wishes. Women, men and children chant hymns and offer prayers in the week long celebrations.

Delhi court convicts four persons guilty in 1975 LN Mishra murder case

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): A Delhi court on Monday pronounced four people guilty in 1975 LN Mishra murder case. Mishra was former railway minister and was murdered at a function in Bihar nearly 40 years ago. The court has fixed December 15 for hearing arguments on the quantum of punishment. All four have been taken in custody. Over 200 witnesses, including 161 prosecution witnesses and more than 40 defence witnesses, were examined in the case. The accused had earlier approached the Supreme Court for quashing of the trial against them in the murder case. The apex court had on August 17, 2012 dismissed their pleas on the ground that the proceedings could not be quashed merely because they had not been concluded in the last 37 years.
